Bass-Murakami

Bass-Murakami, is a tribute I made to the artist and designer Takashi Murakami and his "Little Boy" exhibition. This was a first year project of mine at the visual-communication department in Bezalel. Advisor: Boris Zaidman
Takashi Murakami is known for his cheerful use of colours
and cute flat imagery. But underneath lies the influence of a catastrophic disaster that hit the Japanese nation-
the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
In this project I decided to interlace the history of the Japanese nation with the history of the jewish people, which had a dark era of it's own, from the same war and timeline, the holocaust.
At first glance you would probably notice a happy picture-bright colours, smiling faces etc. However in a deeper view, you will start to realize that the gate (mouth) with the train rails, is no other than the infamous Auschwitz entrance gate.
This piece was selected to be the cover of "The Protocols of Bezalel’s Young", July 2010, an online magazine oh the history and theory unit of Bezalel, academy of arts and design.
בס-מורקאמי הינה מחווה שעשיתי לאמן והמעצב טקאשי מורקאמי והתערוכה שלו "ליטל בוי״. עבודה זו נעשתה במסגרת שנתי הראשונה במחלקה לתקשורת חזותית בבצלאל. מנחה: בוריס זיידמן.
טקאשי מורקאמי ידוע בשימוש שלו בצבעים עליזים וביצירת דימויים שטוחים וחמודים. אולם מתחת לפני השטח מסתתרת ההשפעה של קטסטרופה לאומית שהכתה ביפן - הטלת הפצצות הגרעיניות על הירושימה ונגסאקי.
בפרוייקט זה החלטתי לקשור את ההיסטוריה של העם היפני לזו של העם היהודי, לו הייתה תקופה חשוכה משל עצמו שהתרחשה באותו זמן באותה מלחמה, השואה.
במבט ראשון בוודאי תבחינו בציור שמח-צבעים בהירים ועזים, פרצופים מחייכים וכו׳. אולם, בצפייה מעמיקה יותר, תוכלו להבחין כי השער ( הפה ) עם פסי הרכבת המוליכות אליו הוא לא אחר משער הכניסה למחנה ההשמדה אושוויץ הידוע לשמצה.
יצירה זו נבחרה לעטר את השער של ״הפרוטוקולים של צעירי בצלאל״, יולי 2010, מגזין אינטרנטי של המחלקה להיסטוריה ותיאוריה בבצלאל, אקדמיה לאמנות ועיצוב. הגיעו לקישור
